Saratoga Living Magazine
Founding Editor & Publisher: 1998 - 2004
Motivated by a desire to share uplifting stories about those who
make the Saratoga Region an ideal spot in which to live, work, laugh
and play all year long, Ann established a periodical that was
originally dubbed ”The magazine that showcases the faces behind the
places.” Duties included formulating a business plan, creating
promotional and marketing materials, selling and designing print
ads, securing distributors and negotiating with printers. Other key
responsibilities involved developing editorial guidelines,
researching and writing in-depth articles, liaising with freelance
writers and photographers, editing and paginating, web design
consultations and public speaking engagements. Although she sold
Saratoga Living in 2004, Ann continues to contribute feature stories
to the vibrant quarterly periodical on a regular basis. (To learn

The Star Newspaper: Anastos Media Group
Editor: 1999 - 2001
Responsible for editorial content and overall design of monthly
publication serving readers in the greater Saratoga/Capital Region.
Duties ranged from meeting with publisher Ernie Anastos to discuss
themes to researching and writing in-depth articles on events and
issues deemed to be of special interest to readership. Also edited
submissions from contributors and worked closely with printer as
well as STAR and MOON radio staff. (NOTE: These responsibilities
were carried out while simultaneously publishing a quarterly
magazine.)
The Sunday Gazette
Regular contributor: 1994 -1998
Wrote monthly column on diverse Capital Region issues for the Sunday
Opinion Page cover; also had numerous features published in the
newspaper's weekend real estate section.
GRIT: American Life & Traditions
Regular contributor: 1995 - 1997
Prepared in-depth features on a variety of subjects of interest to
national readership. Topics ranged from the lighthearted features on
Dr. Joel Goodman's internationally acclaimed HUMOR Project (Why
Laughing Matters) and the blessings of big families (Happier by the
Dozen) to helping heal children's divorce wounds (When the in-laws
become out-laws).
Today's Parent: Canada's National Parenting Magazine
Writer/columnist: 1984 - 1989
Specialized in preparing in-depth features about timely parenting
issues as well as researching and writing STAGES, a regular column
devoted to helping parents cope with concerns involving children
from birth to age eight. These assignments afforded opportunities to
interview some of Canada's most prominent medical, educational,
legal and child care experts. Also wrote for an affiliated national
magazine for expectant parents.
Toronto Star/Neighbors West and Lifestyles
Freelance Writer/Photographer: 1983 -1989
Regular contributor of stories and photos ranging from soft features
on big families and old general stores to hard-hitting pieces on
substance abuse and labor problems.
The Oakville Journal Record/Oakville Beaver
Full-time Staff Reporter/Columnist/Editor: 1977 - 1883
Starting as a police and court reporter, gradually worked way up
ranks to Community/Lifestyles Editor and later to News Editor,
responsible for a staff of a dozen reporters, section editors, and
photographers. Other duties included copy editing, laying out pages
and writing editorials. Wrote extensively about educational,
medical, political and social issues.
The Canadian Champion
Full-time Staff Reporter/Photographer: 1976 - 1977
Covered a variety of stories and photo assignments ranging from the
artistic to the political; from uplifting celebrity profiles to
tragic human dramas.
