"The Pot of Gold"
A Musical Fairy Tale
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
Written for the Bicentennial Celebration of the Village of Ballston
Spa, NY
1807 - 2007
By Francis G. Hauprich
This play dedicated . . .
to Donald and Audrey Hauprich who are the best of parents,
to The Sherwood Family who have been the best of friends,
to The Village of Ballston Spa which is the best of places,
and to God who brings out the best in all of us
so that
we can treasure life while we share our love like a pot of gold.
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
The Pot of Gold is a play about
Ballston Spa...
a small, but magical place with a rich & colorful history.
Like the village itself, each character is a work in progress
~building upon the past and dreaming of the future.
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
If walls could speak, what stories
would our little village tell
Of suns that rose in glory and of shooting stars that fell
While ordinary people had extraordinary dreams
Of Camelot's round table and unstoppable sports teams
Some came here as hillbillies and some with great ambition
To work and raise their families with values and tradition
They built the homes and factories, the churches and the stores
And left behind a legacy of love that's mine and yours
And thus our village is a stage where you and I perform
Without a script until this page of history's been turned
And at the final curtain, if actors take a bow
It's for a fine performance in the parts we're playing now
To teach our little munchkins how to live, for it's agreed
A world of peace and brotherhood and love is what we need
For love can feed the hungry and love can help the poor
And make the world one family and put an end to war
If hearts could love, how different would this world we live in
be
Both in our dear home country and in lands across the sea
So, perhaps our friendly village has a story to be told
That could send the world a message as we share a pot of gold!
